Ohio Hospital To Acquire And Host Imedica EHR/PM System
Taking advantage of Stark Law, Alliance Community Hospital to boost care and regional EHR implementation among Ohio practices
ALLIANCE, OH – April 2, 2009 – iMedica Corporation, a leading developer of healthcare software solutions for physician practices, today announced a unique go-to-market strategy and partnership with Alliance Community Hospital, a 200- bed, 150-physician not-for-profit facility in Alliance, Ohio, that allows the hospital to become a value-added reseller (VAR) of iMedica’s electronic health record (EHR) and practice management (PM) products and services.
“Alliance is dedicated to serving its patient and physician community by providing a safe, comforting, healing environment,” said David Shroades, Alliance’s Chief Technology Officer. “Alliance’s partnership with iMedica complements our goal of maximizing technology to improve the care delivery process and accelerate adoption and use of EHRs among physicians and other clinicians.”
Alliance recently acquired iMedica’s Patient Relationship Manager™ (PRM), a single-application EHR and PM solution that utilizes Microsoft’s latest .NET technology. The hospital will provide hosting through an application service provider (ASP) model. Physicians will access iMedica’s PRM through a low-cost subscription-based service, while the hospital earns tax credits for extending value to the local physician community. The partnership leverages the Stark Law, whichallows hospitals to “gift” software, but not hardware, to physicians.
“This partnership will undoubtedly broaden physician practice adoption of hosted and client server-deployed applications in the Akron/Canton area and northeast Ohio,” said Michael Nissenbaum, President and Chief Executive Officer of iMedica. “The VAR agreement covers iMedica’s PRM support and implementation, which can dramatically affect the costs of an EHR/PM system purchase.”
iMedica will certify Alliance physicians, who will then train physician colleagues in PM, clinical and VAR program operations. Two Alliance physicians will complete certification in March 2009, with a total of 10 physicians scheduled to be certified by August 2009.
“Alliance hesitated to invest in technology that might become obsolete in one to two years,” said Shroades. “iMedica met our standards on technology, longevity, flexibility and value, creating a perfect fit all around.”
iMedica’s PRM is a fully-integrated solution that uses Microsoft’s flexible .NET technology, a unique feature that replicates data onto a tablet PC or laptop, enabling clinicians to access or update patient charts from anywhere and at anytime without being connected to the Internet, LAN or WAN. The iMedica PRM also offers total security by repopulating data lost in a power outage or disaster.
