The 2016 Aprima User Conference: another great meeting in books!

“The 2016 user conference was the best ever, with more exciting product vendors and terrific user education programs, keeping Aprima users ‘ahead of the curve.’"  - Milton J. Klein, DO

Dr. Klein is right: the 2016 Aprima User Conference was definitely top-notch!

If you were one of the 800 or so folks who joined us in Dallas August 4-7, you experienced first-hand the wide variety of educational and networking opportunities at this year’s seventh annual event. Aprima offered over 80 educational sessions, plus pre-conference boot camps focused on EHR, practice management, power users and content and customization.

The educational sessions covered financial and clinical topics, including product updates, maximizing revenue through incentive and quality care programs and demonstrations of new functionality. We also offered seven physician-led, specialty-focused round tables and allocated plenty of time for attendees to network with one another, either informally or during focused break-out sessions. Customers also spent time meeting with Aprima employees, partners and resellers and took advantage of one-on-one sessions with the Aprima experts.

One of the most popular sessions was the keynote by Susan Fontenot, BSN, JD, CSP.  Fontenot, who is a healthcare law expert, provided a thorough overview of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) and the Merit Based Incentive System (MIPS), which is scheduled to go into effect in 2017. She provided practices with guidance on how to prepare for MACRA/MIPS and outlined how the program would impact provider reporting and reimbursement.

One of this year’s more unique activities was our 2016 presidential poll. Using the Aprima smartphone conference app, attendees could vote for the candidate they believed would most benefit their practice. Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton edged out Republican Donald Trump 48% to 36% in voting among physician practice professionals, including physicians and their clinical and administrative staff. We will have to wait until November to see how well our customers’ votes align with the rest of the country.

All attendees had a chance to pitch in to make over 150 blankets for children in the ICU at Children’s Health in Dallas. I’m proud to say that over the past five years, conference attendees have contributed nearly 500 blankets, as well as 1,000 activity bags and cash donations to the hospital. Impressive!

Of course we did set aside a bit of time just to have some fun! Our casino night was once again very popular, as customers and employees attempted to win some play money while trying their luck at blackjack, craps, and roulette. A few brave souls even showed off their hidden talents while singing late night karaoke.

Conference attendees represented dozens of medical specialities from physician practices across the US, including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. Approximately 20 Aprima partners exhibited at the conference, giving customers the chance to learn about products and services that extend the usability of their Aprima systems. A big thanks goes to Surescripts® for serving as our Diamond Sponsor for the second straight year, as well as to Platinum sponsors N-Krypt and Panasonic®.

On behalf of all of Aprima, I’d like to extend a big thank you to all our customers and partners who helped make this year’s meeting a great success. I’m already looking forward to next year!
